For those who took some time out, either in the weeks leading up to the birth of your bundle of joy, or else to enjoy those first few months of bonding once your baby was born, from a professional career, this article is for you.

Here are some helpful tips regarding returning to work after having a baby.

Organize a Staged Return

First and foremost, it would be hugely emotionally challenging to go from spending every waking moment with your new baby at home to jumping straight back into a fifty-hour working week. As such, a staged return to the office is strongly advisable.

Think of it as minimizing the emotional impact further down the line, and the sooner you speak to your employer and arrange a phased return, the more confident you will be that, once your parental leave is over, your life can return to some semblance of normal.

Take Pride in Your Appearance

Taking care of your body, especially after having put yourself through the physically traumatic process of giving birth to another human being, is usually not on top of a new mom’s to-do list. Still, just a few simple treats could make a big difference to how you feel.

Don’t Waste Your Precious Time

If you are looking for tips to return to work while still on your parental leave, you are, of course, to be commended for thinking and planning; however, this must not come at the expense of wasting the last few days or weeks by not being present with your new son or daughter.

Appreciate this time you have been given and spend just, for example, an hour a day looking to plan your return-to-work schedule, but the other twenty-three hours in each day being present at the moment.

Rely on a Supportive Social Circle

Finally, even if you are one of those admirable and inspirational women who feel as if nothing is too tricky or impossible to accomplish, the strongest person in the world still needs loved ones around them to rely upon from time to time.

Nobody would want you to offload your entire thought database every time you meet them for a coffee or drop your children off at their homes on your way to work. However, building a positive and supportive network around you is an important factor when returning to work.

Hopefully, you additionally have colleagues who, where they may not be actual friends, still have a vested interest in your well-being, and if this is the case, be sure to keep them in the loop ahead of time.
